Horseback Trail Riding

At Granite Creek Ranch we specialize in mountain trail riding with wide views from high vistas.  We have horses for all skill levels – from beginner to experienced. Our horses are well trained and calm. Each group of guests will be led by an experienced trail guide. We can take riders from 7 years and older on the trails.  For younger children, we offer hand-led horse rides around the ranch yard and nearby woods. (We do not allow double riding). Most rides have a 2 rider minimum. For single riders, we can often add you onto another group with enough notice. We have a rider weight limit of 250 pounds.

*We require a $200 non-refundable deposit on groups of 10 or more riders.*

Granite Creek Meadow Ride (1 hr, 7 years +) $45/person

This is a great ride especially for younger children and beginners. The trail is wide and more flat going through some open ground and trees up into Granite Creek Meadow. Excellent for building confidence, gaining experience riding and having them feel more comfortable. Ages 7 yrs and older can ride on this trail.

Aspen Canyon Ride (1 hr 30 min, 7 years +) $75/person

This is our most popular ride.  Ages 7 and up can go on this ride. This 1 hr 30 min ride goes up a Fir and Aspen tree canyon to get a great view of the valley and the Grand Tetons off in the distance, then back to the corrals.  Aspen Canyon is full of Aspen trees and in mid-to-late summer you can pick plump, purple service berries from the bushes right along the trail.

Aspen Canyon Trail

Baldy Mountain Trail (1 hr 35 min, 10 years +)  $85/person

This trail ride is more open with great views nearly the entire trail.  Baldy Mountain offers views of the Tetons in the distance, Antelope Flats and the ranch yard.  Great for those looking for a little more riding than an hour. **If the weather is exceptionally hot, we may change this ride to the Aspen Canyon Ride for the well-being of the horses**

Blackburn Canyon Ride (2 hours, 7 years +, 4 rider minimum) $95/person

This trail goes up to Blackburn meadow area. Blackburn was an original homesteader of one of the canyons on the ranch. Great ride for those wanting to go longer than an hour and gain more confidence riding a horse. For ages 7 and older.

Horse Creek Ride (2 hr 30 min, 10+ yrs, 4 rider minimum) $125/person

This trail ride will go up Blackburn Canyon, take a big loop around Horse Creek Peak on the north side of the ranch, then back down through the heavily wooded Chicken Creek Canyon.

Granite Creek Ranch is very diverse in scenery and terrain.  The ranch rises from 6200 ft to over 7300 ft elevation at the highest peak.  Our trail rides wind through thick forests of Quaking Aspen, Pine and Fir trees up through canyons, over creeks, and onto spectacular sage brush covered vistas with panoramic views of the Antelope Flats Valley and the Grand Tetons in the distance.

So come enjoy the fresh mountain air and take in the views!

A few things to note before coming to ride:

-Reservation is required, so please call or email before hand.

-Please plan on arriving 20 min before the scheduled ride to fit all your group to saddles and horses.

-We have riding helmets available for trail riding if desired.

-Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes for trail riding as there are branches and trees along the trails. Sunscreen and hats are also advised.

-There is mobile payment capability at the ranch for card processing.

-A few cell phones have been lost from pockets over the years while riding. It is best to bring a fanny pack/small back pack or small pouch to tie to the saddle horn for your camera or phone.  The guide will stop for pictures several times during the ride.

-There are plenty of shady places to sit and relax at headquarters for those accompanying the group, but not riding.

Granite Creek Ranch is located about 40 miles east of Idaho Falls off Highway 26 (Swan Valley Highway) at mile marker 368, then 2 miles down Granite Creek Rd. (gravel road)
